Started the game, immediatley sold my jacket armor and bought a medkit and energy drink, ran to Wolf for some free stuff, then ran straight North, swiping some of the Bandits' stuff under the bridge on the way, and kept going all the way to the Bar area (you can open the gate to the Bar area by running straight into the center of it and trying to open it).

I actually tried to get past the Red Forest without the psi helmet, but I couldn't figure out how to get outside the boundary fence to avoid being killed by the brain scorcher, so I ended up starting over and swinging by Yantar for the psi helmet and beating the game that way. I played through STALKER SoC again, a bit faster this time than last time I sped through the game. That's a balance that is not easy to pull off.Īlso, the mods for this game are incredible, but you don't need them to enjoy the game. It's not easy, and the enemies or no pushover, but it's very rarely frustrating. It starts off simple enough, but as you get further in, you notice they start incorporating little changes into the game and you can't help to appreciate how it keeps getting richer. My favorite things are your limited inventory weight, which makes for very intersting choices, coupled with the ever-increasing level design. That said it's not perfect and there are issues but none of it detracts from the game. I love the feel of the game as your progress through it. Thoughts? The setting, the levels, the atmosphere, the combat, the enemies, all of it is so well done. Why this? I come back to it every few years or so because I love everything about it. What is it? Nonlinear FPS set in the radiation zone of Chernobyl around 2012. And I just picked up Into the Radius, a STALKER-inspired VR game that looks neat. Also looking forward to STALKER 2 coming out. I've also been eying the STALKER Anomaly mod, a huge standalone mega mod that uses the content of all three STALKER games to make something kind of new. In a STALKER mood lately I think I'll finally play Metro Exodus, soon. This was a fun and relatively quick run through one of my favorite games. I skipped the Pripyat arena, ran inside the CNPP, collected the exosuit in the lower level near the entrance, and then eliminated all Monolith in the sarcophagus, using my collected fireball artifacts to combat radiation as needed. I started to take my time a bit more at this point, stopping to loot Monolith soldiers and stopping to enjoy Pripyat a bit more than I have on my previous few playthroughs. I gathered the fireball artifacts and sunrise suit near the bridge in Wild Territory on the way back, turning left at the bar and running straight through the Red Forest. I opened some crates around it, found a grenade, and used it to kill the scientist's aide, making the scientist give me the prototype psi-helmet even though I hadn't done any other quests yet. After selling my clothes and buying some bandaids, I ran straight to Yantar, chugging energy drinks and ignoring everything until I got to the scientists' bunker. I decided to load up STALKER again and play through the game from start to the Wish Granter. Time to beat (wish granter ending): ~2 hrs
